The second edition of the Seattle Franco-Belgian Comics Festival starts on November 5th!
Register on the Made in France website, organizer of the festival! The opening ceremony of this second edition, 100% online and in French, will be held on November 5 in the presence of Frederic Jung, Consul General of France in San Francisco, Mia Yen, Consul General of Canada in Seattle, and Pascal Gros, famous press cartoonist (including the weekly magazine Marianne), and honored guest of the 2021 edition.
Patronized by Jean Bastide, illustrator of Boule et Bill and Idéfix, the Festival invites you to meet many authors, illustrators, and comic book professionals, live on the Made in France website and on YouTube. Celebrating the 9th art, it is based on three themes: “Freedom”, “Comics are in the West” and “Francophonie”.
Workshops for adults but also for young people will be held with Jacques Goldstyn, Julien Paré-Sorel, and Marguerite Abouet, author of Aya de Yapoungo and Akissi.
A comic book contest was even launched in partnership with the EFSAC of Sacramento and Lucky Comics. Children aged 7 to 16 from participating schools and associations have until November 20 to submit their works. In honor of Lucky Luke’s 75th birthday, the idea of the contest is to create a comic book on the subject: “A Cowboy in Your Town”. JUL, Lucky Luke’s scriptwriter, will head the jury and announce the winner on December 4th.
With Pascal Gros as an honored guest, a part of the festival is also dedicated to the freedom of the press, and an exhibition is proposed on the subject. In total, there will be three exhibitions on different themes that will travel and be accessible online from the United States and abroad between November 2021 and March 2022.
